Philosophy of education

 "If a child cannot learn the way we teach, then maybe we need to change the way we teach."- Ignacio Estrada.

     I believe that every child that walks in my classroom is unique.  Every child comes from a different home environment with different expectations, and a different up bringing.  As a result each child brings a unique outlook, ideas, and opinions to the classroom.  Each child also brings in different educational needs, what may work for one child may not work for all the children in the classroom.  Even ideas that were successful in the past, may not work with every child.  As a result the teacher needs to be willing to change their methods and even style of teaching to be able to reach all of the students in the classroom.

    Education should be child centered.  The way we teach, not only needs to take into consideration the needs of the child but also the interests of the child. Teachers should try to work in a child's interests into the lessons.  While there are standards that need to be taught, teachers can incorporate shows, books, and topics the children like into their lessons.  

    It is important that a teacher make the classroom a safe place for each child.  Teachers need to ensure that they treat each child with respect and dignity at all times. The teacher also needs to model the behavior he or she expects from his or her students.  This needs to be done in the way the teacher speaks, and interacts with the students.
